The last 7 days are dominated by very interesting and amazing news: iPhone 4 jailbreak, preview of the high-class smartphone BlackBerry Torch 9800, new Google acquisition and Google abandoned its ambitious Wave project.

Jailbreak for iPhone 4

On August 1st, a hacker released the first “jailbreak” for the iPhone 4, a browser-based app that allows users to run unauthorized code. However, some users reported that there are problems with MMS and FaceTime functionality after unlocking the phone. Apple quickly caught on to their efforts and the company has banned access to the jailbreakme.com website on Wi-Fi networks at its retail stores. Check out a jailbreak video by CNETTV:

Announcing BlackBerry Torch 9800

BlackBerry Torch 9800

On August 4th, RIM announced the new BlackBerry Torch 9800 smartphone with advanced touchscreen and sliding QWERTY keyboard. A prominent of this smartphone is BlackBerry 6 OS with a series of improvements such as icons, graphics and new WebKit browser. Watch hands-on video of BlackBerry Torch 9800.

Spectacular growth of Android

Android is increasingly affirmed as the most powerful platform in the future when there are about 200,000 Android phones sold each day in July, 25% higher than in June. According to Canalys – a research firm, in the U.S. market, Android is increasing 9 times as fast as in last year. At the moment, Android-based smartphone sales have reached 34%, followed by RIM of BlackBerry and Apple’s iOS with respectively 32.1% and 21.7% of the smartphone’s market share.

Google Wave closed

Google Wave closed

Representatives of Google said they will close Google Wave later this year as users are not interested in this service. In essence, Wave is a real time online application allowing users to combine e-mail with social networking features. This is quite a big disappointment for a much anticipated product.

Google acquired Slide

Another news from Google, yesterday they announced that they’ve acquired Slide, the social technology company building new ways for people to connect with others across numerous platforms online. It’s interesting to see Google’s expansion on social gaming and ways people make fun on the internet which is currently dominated by Facebook.

    Hey Tuan, my daughter has iPhone 3 so I’ll be sure to share this jailbreak video with her. She’s pretty brave so I bet she’ll give it a try. I like that term “jailbreak” it sound kinda naughty.
    I never understood how wave would benefit me unless we were forced to use it at work. I’m glad we never got into it. Thanks for the tech news.

      Yeah, it is pretty simple to jailbreak the iPhone with this app, however you should tell her to backup the device by syncing on iTunes first and be sure to reboot both your computer and your phone before unlocking iPhone. Good luck, Ileane and thanks for your retweet. :)

    Google really made it into the news the last couple of days, with Wave going, Android exploding and every thing else Google get up to,

    The Apple unlock was also good to see at last, and of course that opened up a whole load more exploits
