Samsung B2100 vs Nokia 3720 Classic Comparision

Samsung B2100 vs Nokia 3720
Samsung B2100 and Nokia 3720 Classic are two of the most rugged mobile phones in the market till now.

Everyone has heard about Nokia 3720, the Nokia’s most rugged phone. However, right after the release of Nokia 3720, Samsung also launched a rugged phone of its own, Samsung B2100. In this article, I will compare the technical specifications between them. You can also see their specification table in my previous post here.

1/ Network :
Nokia 3720: 2G Network – GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900
Samsung B2100 : 2G Network – GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
Result : Both phones do not support 3G, and have similar bands. Nokia draws with Samsung.

2/ Size and Weight :
Nokia 3720 : 115 x 47 x 15.3 mm, 94g
Samsung B2100 : 113 x 48.9 x 17.4 mm, 102.8g
Result : Samsung B2100 is 2.1 mm thicker, 1.9mm wider and slightly heavier than Nokia 3720. The winner is Nokia.

3/ Display (Type and Size) :
Nokia 3720 : TFT(16M colors), 240 x 320 pixels, 2.2 inches
Samsung B2100 : TFT (256K colors), 120 x 160 pixels, 1.77 inches
Result : Though both phones have TFT display, Nokia 3720 has more colours, larger screen and better resolution as compared to Samsung B2100. Nokia wins absolutely.

4/ Memory (Internal and External) :
Nokia 3720 : 20 MB, microSD (TransFlash) up to 8GB, 1GB card included.
Samsung B2100 : 7MB, microSD (TransFlash) up to 8GB.
Result : Both have card slot for upto 8GB microSD cards but Nokia 3720 has massive internal memory in competition to its rival Samsung B2100. Nokia is still the winner.

5/ Camera :
Nokia 3720 : 2 MP, 1600×1200 pixels, LED flash
Samsung B2100 : 1.3 MP, 1280 x 1024 pixels, flash
Result : Nokia 3720 has a slightly better camera than Samsung B2100 but both of them have the ability to take video. Nokia wins again.

6/ Rugged Features :
Nokia 3720 : IP54 certified – dust and water jets resistant
Samsung B2100 : Shock, water and dust resistant (IP57, MIL-STD-810F), Water proof up to 1 meter and 30 minutes, Anti-shock materials (urethane), Noise cancellation with dedicated microphone
Result : Both phones can dust, shock and water resistant. However Samsung B2100 can survive better in all three of those conditions. Samsung wins its first game.

7/ Battery life:
Nokia 3720 : Standby 600h & talk time is 9h.
Samsung B2100 : Standby 408h & talk time 7h
Result : Both have a long battery life but Nokia 3720 is more excellent in this aspect. Nokia wins this game.

8/ Price :
Nokia 3720 : $175
Samsung B2100 : approximately $187
Result : Nokia 3720 is slightly cheaper than Samsung B2100.

Overall Result : Nokia 3720 won 7/8 game of this match. It leads in most front against Samsung B2100 except for an only aspect which are rugged features. This aspect are also the most important for a rugged phone, so the decision to choose between them still need to be considered. If you really really need a rugged phone and don’t need too many technical features, just choose Samsung B2100. But if you think Nokia 3720 is rugged enough and its price is more reasonable, buy it.

    it would be a better match up if you compare the newer samsung B2700 against the nokia 3720

    oh, sorry for the mistake, I edited my post. I wrote this review 2 months ago and Samsung B2700 wasn’t on the market at that time.

    nokia este mai scump,samsung este mai durabil inclusiv bateria tine mai mult.Dar cred ca samsung b2700 merita mai mult.

      I already concluded that Nokia 3720 is my choice. As I said in the article, Nokia 3720′s specifications are much better than Samsung B2100. And moreover, Nokia is my favourite mobile brand :D
