With the yearly schedule of Apple releases, consumers are expecting the iPhone 5 will get official this July. However, it will become more difficult this time as people will have to decide which carrier they should go ahead for, AT&T or Verizon.
A recent Verizon press conference confirmed that iPhone will not be exclusive on AT&T anymore. Starting February 10, the Verizon iPhone 4 will be available and orders can be placed starting February 3 for Verizon customers. This is a good thing for consumers, they now have more options, more features and also can get iPhone with cheaper prices. People have anticipated this news for a long time, many even are prepared to leave AT&T for Verizon Wireless because of AT&T restrictions such as Skype, Google Voice prevention.
However, if you are tied to the AT&T contract, you should read the new fine print in your contract. AT&T recently changed their Early Termination Fees, so if you want to jump to Verizon, you will have to pay $325, minus $10 for every full month you’ve been on contract. If you got your iPhone before June 1, 2010, the fee is lower at $175, minus $5 for each month on AT&T. One more thing you have to consider when switching to Verizon is checking if your number can be ported to this carrier, check the number eligibility here.
With all the excitement of Verizon getting into the iPhone market, we expect the iPhone 5 will be carried by both AT&T and Verizon although I thought it will go AT&T only first. Anyways, there will be an exciting summer, we will see if iPhone 5 can be on the top of the smartphone market as there are a lot of great ones announced at CES 2011.
I will wait to July and hope it will better than the iPhone 4.
iPhone 5 may lead to new competition level between AT&T and Verizon so it is interesting to see how it will be going on the launch.
Yeah, they have to compete with each other and the winner is consumers. AT&T will have to lower prices and improve their service thoroughly to keep current customers. Time will tell us exactly.
I can’t wait to see the real iPhone 5 prototype design and great new features from Apple
I am also eager to see it. Steve Jobs is taking another medical leave now and hopefully he will recover soon for the iPhone 5 release. Then, we will have more things to write.
STEVE JOBS, the mastermind behind Apple’s iPhone, iPad, iPod, iMac and iTunes, has DIED………
