Compare HTC Inspire 4G and HTC Desire HD

HTC has just announced the new HTC Insprire 4G at this year’s CES. If anyone has hands on this handset, you will be surprised as the Inspire 4G is pretty identical to the Desire HD. I am sure you will not be able to distinguish the 2 smartphones because they have the same design too. I just could find out 2 differences of Inspire 4G over Desire HD.

In terms of specs, the 2 smartphones have exactly the same features, both are featured with 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 8MP camera with dual LED flash and 720p HD video recording, as well as Dolby Mobile and SRS WOW HD. The CEO of HTC, Peter Chou, stated that the Inspire 4G will be the first device device with HTC Next Generation Sense platform featuring cached maps, fastboot, lost phone finder and more. However, they are only new in the US as European and Asian consumers have already had the experience in Desire HD and Desire Z. The Inspire 4G just has a minor improvement, that is the compatibility with HSPA+ 4G network but it still doesn’t support 4G LTE network.

The second difference between the 2 phones is that Inspire 4G will come to AT&T in the first quarter of 2011. What a pity that it won’t support the carrier’s upcoming LTE network.

In conclusion, we can say that the Inspire 4G is just another version of Desire HD for US market. You just should get this phone if you are in the US and haven’t got Desire HD or Desire Z. Its price is expected to be around $200 with contract.

  1. So, it seems HTC only renew its old cell phones version this time.

    • I got this to replace my Captivate. I really didn’t think it would so easy to transition to a larger screen, (4.3″) but now I cannot imagine going back to a 4″. The Inspire 4G runs Android 2.2.1, which is Froyo. The software is super snappy and responsive, and runs on HTC’s Sense platform, which is loads better than TouchWiz on the Samsung. I cannot say much about AT&T 4G network, as 4G is really more of a marketing gimmick, but the internet does seem a tad faster and syncing taking slightly less time to do. Yes, the Inspire does come with some AT&T bloatware, but it seems less than the Samsung; HTC also has a ton of apps preloaded, but most are actually useful. For example, HTC has a store of sorts where you can download ringtones and wallpapers; reminds me of the old AT&T Medianet. The Inspire also has a notification LED next to the speaker grill, which is a nice touch; very Blackberry-esque. The charging port is on the bottom and is unrestricted, so any microUSB cable should work. All in all, this is a great phone and one of the best Android phones on AT&T right now.

  2. The US tends to have different name and slight design dissimilarities comparing to versions intended for the rest of the world.

  3. Thats very smart of HTC. Different brand names catering to different markets sound like a clever marketing strategy.

  4. @ Tuan: HTC plans on releasing 30 new smartphone by 2011. They will use the latest technology like Dual core Tegra 2, Higher res display and many more.

    • Thanks for your info, Alex. We have seen some awesome HTC smartphones this quarter. I am very impressed with the HTC EVO 3D and hopefully it will be released soon.

  5. Hello, HTC inspire 4G is the same one as the HTC Desire HD, but for the American market. I can’t discover any differences between the cellphones. No one can be better than the other one of the these smartphones, even if the Desire HD has been in the market for so much longer… You should describe them as two smartphones, which have many things in common. We are able to understand that such similes between different mobile devices will always be. Other cellphones are also trying to match the iPhone 4 in the market, they look like them, their principles are the same, but they don’t work like them. If anyone of you have a HTC Desire HD or a HTC Inspire 4G, please compare them with each other, so that you can see the similarities betwen them. Then you have opportunities to comment if you agree or disagree with me.

  6. Portugal says:

Great screen, great camera, terrible battery life.
I had an Inspire for about 10 days before I broke down and decided to return it. Screen is beautiful, although the glass seems to give a lot of glare. 8 megapixel camera takes great (although in some circumstances slightly high contrast) pictures overall, I tried some night shots and was fairly impressed. Sense 2.0 is… well it’s Sense, if you like the htc interface

  7. shantal says:

is the htc desire hd and htc desire the same

  8. 2 weeks into use, I’ve got to say I’m very satisfied. This is a powerful phone for only $50-$100 at various retailers

  9. is the HTC DESIRE HD has the “Dolby + SRS Surround with noise cancellation” like HTC inspire 4G?

  10. Inspire 4G has 4GB of built memory. Desire only has 2.

  11. Ops, actually, Desire has 1,5 and not 2.

  12. hi, i want to buy my 1st android phone. (Desire HD or Inspire) i heard new HTC sense (Inspire 4G) sucks the battery life than DHD even they are the same (1230 mah), is it true?… please advice me..

  13. I have the HTC Inspire 4G on the AT&T market. While I agree that it is a very powerful phone loaded with just about anything a computer has — I’ve heard it compared as a computer with a phone — I am a little disappointed with the touch screen. I have had this phone (got it new) for two months, and today the row of touch screen buttons (home, menu, go back, and search) ceased working. I now have to restart my phone everytime I want to go back to the main screen. Going to the store where I purchased it tomorrow, and hopefully they can either fix the problem or exchange it for a new one.
