Cyclo (Cycle rickshaw)

cyclo

The cycle rickshaw is a small-scale local means of transport; it is also known by a variety of other names such as pedicab, bikecab, cyclo, or trishaw. The term Rickshaw is used more broadly, and also refers to auto rickshaws, and the, now uncommon, rickshaws pulled by a person on foot. Cycle rickshaws are human-powered, a type of tricycle designed to carry passengers in addition to the driver. They are often used on a for hire basis. Cycle rickshaws are widely used in major cities around the world, but most commonly in cities of South, Southeast and East Asia.

Cyclo is just simple and ordinary as its appearance. No noisy sound from engines, no obscure smoke and no spending too much for commuting. From a long time ago, Vietnamese people have thought of the cyclo as a familiar means of transportation when going out. It is not only close-knit to Vietnamese but also connected strongly with the foreigners as all of them were attracted by this unique means at the first time visiting Vietnam. However, free cyclo drivers have been prohibited in big cities in Vietnam for a few decades. Therefore, finding a cyclo in Hanoi now is not as easy as before. There are only some cyclo services in Hanoi nowadays and visitors can find them in the central areas such as Hoan Kiem Lake or some nearby big hotels.
