IELTS band score system:
There is no pass or fail mark. Scores are given on a Overall Band Score of one to nine. The table below can be used for the Listening & Reading tests to convert raw scores to band scores. This chart is a guide only, because sometimes the scores adjust slightly depending on how difficult the exam is.

i want to get 5.5 in ielts exam. how much of soces i need to get at less in the fourth section:
1.speaking
2.listening
3.reading
4.writing
The overall score is the avarage of 4 sections, so you will have to get at least two section at 5.5 and two at 5.o
if i answer 35/40 of listening; 27/40 reading; 6.5 in writing….what would be my aproximate final score?

how about your speaking score? If it’s 6.5, your overall score will be approximately 7.0

Its wrong .. it should be 6 ie: if we add 6.5 + 6 + 4.5 + 5.5 = 22.5/4 = 5.625 so if its above .5 then it counts in the next figure which is 6.

You will get 1+4+4+4 = 13 points for Immigrate to Canada.

I haven’t seen any changes in IELTS band score system, so I think it is valid for 2010. I will update this calculator as soon as IELTS has an official announcement.
Regarding to Writing conversion, it is very difficult to grade your writing score. It even depends on your examiner. However, you can still calculate approximately the writing score based on your studying process.
I find it very useful. Can you please tell what is the difference in band score between academic and general one. Thanks
There are some diffirences in Reading section as you can see. The number of correct answers to achieve 6.0 in academic module is 22-23 while it is 30 in general module.
My overall band score in the academic IELTS was 6 :5 in the listening,5 in the reading ,6 in the writing and 7 in the speaking.The college which I am planning to go to required 7.5 .How much marks should I add to the following tests which I think I can prove them: listening ,writing and reading in order to get 7.5.

You should get at least two 7.0 scores and two 7.5 scores to get 7.5. Good luck.

I am just back from IELTS general training exam . I need 7 in all .Its my second time . Last time , I got 7 in all except reading (6.5). This time I am also worried that I made 4-5 maximum mistake in reading. Can you please let me know how many mistakes allowed to make for reading to get 7 ? Calculator shows 6 but I heard from people 4-5 allowed depending on complexity of the test .

Hi everyone, I am confuse when I have to make a careful consideration about my immigration, specially related to the IELTS Examination. The university in England, exactly is Nottingham University, requires the band score of 6.5 and non subject under 6.0 to transfer in the end of next year. The result when I took the first time in IELTS is just 5.5 (R:6.5, L:5.5, S:5.5, W:4.5 – the worst). I am finding many tips in order to make my grade better, at least my ambition 7.5. However, I am dizzy in such a lot of stuffs, can you give me some advice?
Hi. There are a few ways for you to achieve that objective. You can study IELTS by yourself, many IELTS books can be downloaded from the Internet. This solution can be done easier if you have some partners. Another way is going to IELST study centre. I know that there are prestigious centres in Vietnam like ACET or British Council, many their teachers are IELTS examiners, so you will feel more confident to get your goal. Of course, when you study in the English centres, you have to accept very high tuition.

I will take the IELTS exam (general training) next month for my Canadian immigration application. I only need 2 points from IELTS, but my english is weak so, I do not trust myself much. Anyway, in order to be able to get 2 points;
My reading score should be 5.0
or
Listening: 4.5 and Reading: 3.5 (or Writing:4.0)
What I would like to ask is; how many questions should I answer to get the scores with extra 0.5? I can find how many answers I need to get 5.0 from reading on the internet, however I cannot find anything about how to get 4.5 from listening or 3.5 from reading. I would deeply appreciate it if you could help. Thank you in advance.

I don’t understand your question clearly. Do you want to know how many correct questions are required to get 4.5 in listening and 3.5 in reading section?
If you mean so, you can use the calculator above to know approximately those numbers. You will need at least 11 and 6 correct answers in Listening and Reading Section respectively.

well IELTS is not so difficult to get a required band as i scored OVERALL 7 BAND IN IELTS REFER BOOKS BARRON’S IELTS AND MOCK TESTS PRACTICE MORE AND MORE U WILL DEFENETLY GET A GOOD BAND AS I AM HAPPY WITH BAND7

Yeah, band score 7 is not so difficult but it still requires a lot of serious practice in all 4 sections.

you’ll get 6.0 overall. [ 6+ 5.5 + 4.0 + 7.0 = 22.5/4= 5,625 = 6.0]
Note : if the average of 4 sections has the odds is 0.25, it will be rounded up .5 ; If it is .75, it will be rounded up 1.0.
