Nowadays, social networks as Facebook and Twitter are used by so many users. But in a lot of companies and countries, these social networks are blocked by firewall. For example, you can’t access Facebook in some areas of Vietnam and China. In this article, I will show you 7 ways to access Facebook, Twitter or any blocked site easily.
1. Access by Editing Hosts File
This is a simple way and works very well in Vietnam. After ISPs blocked Google DNS and other ways to access Facebook, you can still access Facebook at its default address by implementing these simple steps:
- Go to C:WindowsSystem32driversetc
- Open the Hosts file to edit
- Add these lines to the bottom:
153.16.15.71 apps.facebook.com
125.252.224.88 facebook.com
125.252.224.88 www.facebook.com
153.16.15.71 login.facebook.com
153.16.15.71 graph.facebook.com
153.16.15.71 static.ak.connect.facebook.com
153.16.15.71 developers.facebook.com
153.16.15.71 error.facebook.com
153.16.15.71 upload.facebook.com
153.16.15.71 register.facebook.com
153.16.15.71 bigzipfiles.facebook.com
153.16.15.71 pixel.facebook.com
153.16.15.71 0.132.channel.facebook.com
153.16.15.71 1.132.channel.facebook.com
153.16.15.71 error.132.channel.facebook.com
Now, refresh your browser and check if you can access Facebook properly. If it is still blocked, try using Google Public DNS and it should work then.
2. Get your own IP address
You can get a US/UK Proxy or VPN IP address here and it will allow us to access the internet with a UK based IP address instead of current IP address provided by your Internet Service Provider. Therefore, you can access any blocked website with faster speed.
After getting your own proxy or VPN IP address, check out the 4th solution to start using it.
3. Use Proxy/Socks
This is a very popular way to visit any site you want without any restriction. All you need is find a good proxy to use. But when use proxy, your speed can be reduced because of the respond time of proxy server, so you should buy a private proxy/socks for the best quality. All proxies or socks have the same format: 123.123.123.123:1234, with numbers before “:” are ip address, and after that are port. To use it, you need configure your browser as following:
- Firefox: Tools > Options > Advanced > Networks > Settings > Manual Proxy Configurations > Socks Host.
- Internet Explorer: Tools > Internet Settings > Connections > Lan Settings > Use a Proxy Server for you LAN.
- Chrome: Options > Under the Hood > Change Proxy Settings > Connections > Lan Settings > Use a Proxy Server for you LAN.
- Opera: Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Networks > Proxy Servers.
Then fill IP and port and apply. To remove it, just take it back to default.

Configure Proxy/Socks in Firefox
4. Use Fake IP Software
Some softwares are used for faking and hiding your IP address such as Auto Hide IP, Real Hide IP, Hide IP NG, Invisible Browsing, etc. They still can decrease surfing speed but not significantly.
5. Use UltraSurf
The easiest and fastest way to hide IP and access to any site you want. All traffic will be brought through UltraReach server. So the speed is almost no change. After downloading UltraSurf, you just run it, and an Internet Explorer windows will open for using. You can also use an add-on to use UltraSurf with Firefox. Note: to use in Firefox, you must download UltraSurf, run it and activate in Firefox. UltraSurf is totally free and no need to setup.
6. Use OpenDNS
Open DNS is a free DNS server that offer you DNS resolution for consumers and businesses as an alternative to using their Internet service provider’s DNS servers. By placing company servers in strategic locations and employing a large cache of the domain names, OpenDNS usually processes queries much more quickly, thereby increasing page retrieval speed. DNS query results are sometimes cached by the local operating system and/or applications, so this speed increase may not be noticeable with every request, but only with requests that are not stored in a local cache. First, you need to change network configuration of window:
- With Windows XP: go to Control Panel –> Network and Internet Connections –> Network Connections, right click to Local Area Network and choose Properties. In list This connection uses the following items, choose Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. In new windows, you click Use the following DNS server addresses, and at Preferred DNS Server, fill 208.67.222.222, and at Alternate DNS Server fill 208.67.220.220. Then OK to finish.
– With Windows Vista or Windows 7, go to Control Panel –> Network and Internet –> Network and Sharing Center > View Status > Properties and the configure as XP.

Yeah I have been in HCMC, Vietnam for about 2 months now and on my Macbook I changed my DNS to 208.67.222.222 and that has worked great up until about 2 days ago. I tried the lisp4.facebook.com and got logged on but it was so slow I couldn’t check anything but my homepage. Are there any other ways to just change your DNS, or has Vietnam caught on to that and blocked that also? Any help greatly appreciated.

hi… why they blocked the FB in Hanoi? I use this http://www.lisp4.facebook.com but how come the “chat” cannot access? is there anyone can help me
becoz this is the only way to communicate with my family?
Hi Swittie,
Vietnam blocks Facebook to limit unauthenticated documents circulating on the Internet. If you want to access the chat functionality, you need to edit the hosts file like I mentioned above. Good luck.
how to edit? please
You just open this file by using Notepad or any other text editor.
i already did this but the other website is affected
I think the VN government blocked FaCeBooK cos they wanted their technology go better. They wanted us to go to their websites like me.zing.vn or something. Or they just wanted us to stop watching or posting inappropriate things. But wth?! We’re humans, and we can just do that, just like some grown-ups.
( But well… yeah.
Yeah, you have the point. I can’t understand why the government has to block Facebook as this is just a tool to communicate. It they want to take the basic right, they should have block all other social networks too. It is just nonsense.
Please tell more ways we are using Debian Os and Icewessl browser
Hey guys,
I’m from Vietnam. Before December 2010, I have used IP changes to access Facebook as you all know that Facebook has been blocked in Vietnam. But after December 2010, I cannot access Facebook any longer. Then I used lisp4.facebook.com. However, this website stability is not very high. I frequently cannot access to Facebook. I have tried all the ways that you guys given but nothing works. Can you guys help me out? I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
That’s strange,
I edit the file hosts and can access Facebook easily now. Could you try the 2nd way again?
Hi bro,
I come from Vietnam too, the ISPs have extremely blocked Facebook domain. I tried to edit the hosts file like this article mentioned. But I just accessed the Login page (Welcome to Facebook) & NOTHING ELSE !
Suggest me another solution !!!
Thank you so much
Hi Casanova,
Firstly you need to edit the file hosts like I mentioned above, I udpated it.
Then you go to a Facebook Page, such as http://www.facebook.com/Tek3D and login.
You should be able to access Facebook now.
Good luck.
I could not log in Facebook even I tried any ways round. Please help! Thanks.
